Thoughtful Thursday talk for Irish in Britain

Earlier this year I was delighted to be asked to give a talk for Irish in Britain’s Thoughtful Thursday series. The series is a campaign by the Cuimhne team - an Irish Memory loss project.

Cuimhne (pronounced ‘queevna’) is the Irish word for memory. Irish in Britain use the term ‘memory loss’ as it is more acceptable to many members of the Irish community than the term ‘dementia’, which is often stigmatised. They believe using this term aims to recognise the uniqueness of each person and the differing ways in which people are affected by, and cope with memory loss.

I reflect on my research into Irish migration at the Brent Museum and Archives, discuss my background and heritage, and talk about how the research has directly impacted my studio practice and current work.

The talk also sheds light on where the work might lead in the future, features a live Q&A and guest speaker, Carmel Murphy, who has been a great inspiration. I also talk about my upcoming exhibition V E S S E L S at Willesden Gallery which opens on 29 November at Willesden Gallery and runs till 10 December.

You can watch the talk online here or by clicking the link below.

I would love to hear your thoughts! :)
