1-1 Artist Mentoring

Emma held space for the artist and the becoming✨each session a spark, each challenge a mirror, like sunlight through leaves, guiding me gently toward the boldest version of myself and a vision of my art I hadn’t yet dared to imagine. She was a quiet hero in my journey, planting seeds that helped me grow into the artist I was always meant to be.🌻✨

I have been working in the arts since I graduated in 2010. Despite it feeling like a huge milestone, I didn’t really have any idea upon leaving art school what it might take to navigate my career or where to even begin - bar looking at the ‘arts jobs’ website! Through various ‘arts jobs’ and being a self-employed artist, I have built up a wealth of experience in many areas including: grant writing, events organisation, arts administration and social media management.

15 years has seen the art world change considerably, but also fairly little; arts degrees are still typically focussed on creative practice and miss the essential skills needed to help become a working artist and how to navigate yourself in an incredibly competitive field. The added pressure today to ‘brand yourself’ right from your degree show is unrealistic and impractical. I am passionate about access to the arts and want to pass on what I have learnt.

My 1-1 mentoring sessions offer a safe space to build confidence in yourself and your career with your own personal quiet cheerleader alongside. Areas I can help include:

  • Identifying strengths and common themes within your practice;

  • Writing your artist statement;

  • Applying for funding and opportunities;

  • Registering as self-employed and handling your taxes;

  • Finding a direction for your work both on and offline;

  • Time management; setting tangible goals;

  • Setting up a studio space;

  • Organising your own exhibitions.

If you would like to chat with no obligations to see if mentoring is right for you, you can register your interest below. Please note; I am a working artist and not an artist manager so I offer perspective and understanding - I know how alien a lot of tasks can feel when you just want to make your work!

Sessions are available virtually or in-person from my studio (Margate). I am currently on maternity leave but accepting enquiries for Autumn 2025.

1 Session (1 hour) is priced at £40.

Sessions are tailored around you and your needs. Open to all; including those prepping their portfolio for foundation, mid degree, just graduated, or those interested in pursuing a career outside of traditional arts education. Everyone has their own path.
